The Dallas Independent School District has achieved record-breaking success in terms of student, school, and staff accomplishments. These achievements stem from the dedication of many people - the students themselves, their teachers and other school staff, principals, the administration, and the more than 41,000 community volunteers and 2,928 partners who support our students with time, talent, and funds.
The Dallas Independent School District was established in 1884. Dallas ISD had absorbed many smaller school districts throughout its history. Vickery Independent School District had been annexed into Dallas ISD (adding Vickery Meadows) in 1948. Addison ISD was absorbed in 1954. Pleasant Grove ISD was annexed in 1955 (adding Pleasant Grove), and Pleasant Grove High School was replaced by Samuell High School on the same year. Seagoville ISD of Seagoville was annexed into DISD in 1965. Wilmer-Hutchins ISD was absorbed after the 2005-2006 school year; residents of WHISD were zoned to Dallas ISD.
