Professional Guardianship Services
Families living overseas with children attending school in the UK or Ireland must appoint a guardian to look after the child when not in school. Good guardianship is critical to a child's well-being and parents will want to be certain that their son or daughter is in a safe, caring environment. The school will also expect that the guardian lives within a reasonable distance, as guardians attend parents' evenings and sports days, and may be called upon to authorise medical treatment in the event of an emergency.
For many families, the guardian will be a relative: grandparents, aunts, uncles or older siblings often take on the role. Sometimes a child's guardians may be chosen from among the parents' close friends. However, it is not always possible to find someone both willing and able to take on the task and this is where the services of a professional agency are invaluable.
A reputable agency will take the time to match your child to the right guardians. They will live reasonably close to the school, they may be parents or grandparents in their own right and they will be dedicated to the welfare of the child in their care. Perhaps the guardians themselves have attended boarding school or lived overseas and therefore have a true understanding of how it feels to arrive in a foreign land where everything is strange and new.
