Bursaries
What are Bursaries?
Financial help from a school, not based on success in a competitive exam, is known as a bursary. Some schools award bursaries to certain categories of parent e.g. clergy, missionaries, the armed forces and teachers. Bursaries are also sometimes offered to children of former pupils. There may be a reduction in fees where siblings attend the same school.
Full information on the bursaries offered by a particular school may be obtained from the individual school's office. Follow these links to see lists of schools offering bursaries in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
The Department for Education funds the Choir Schools Scholarship Scheme which enables talented boys and girls from low-income families to learn at schools which are members of the Choir Schools Association; applications for assistance should be made through the school.
