Wrekin College was founded in 1880 and known as 'the School in the Garden'. It has a fine campus on an estate of about 100 acres on the edge of the small market town of Wellington, at the foot of the Wrekin hills. The well-designed and attractive buildings include a purpose-built theatre, two sports halls, astroturf pitch and indoor swimming pool. It is a C of E foundation, but worship is inter-denominational and central to school life; the Chapel is the most important classroom. It is a small purposeful school, with a strong sense of community. It has been co-educational for a generation (girls have been admitted since 1977) and is committed to the boarding atmosphere. Class sizes are small and the progress of each individual regarded as paramount. Academic standards are high and examination results good. The music, drama and arts departments are strong and creative, working together on shows, concerts and exhibitions. A wide variety of sport is available and all take part. There is an impressive range of extra-curricular activities including the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. There is a strong commitment to local community projects and involvement in local community service.Further information on Boarding Schools »
