School Profile

'We believe we are a leading school because we provide a first class boarding education for our pupils; our staff are dedicated and talented; we have traditional strong links with leading senior schools; and, above all, our children are busy, motivated and happy.'

Boarding is back in fashion, no more so than at WELLESLEY HOUSE in Broadstairs, Kent, one of the country's leading, co-educational boarding and day prep schools. Under the leadership of the new headmaster, Simon O'Malley, Wellesley is entering an exciting phase of its development. With a very positive inspection report soon to be published there is a real sense of purpose and energy about the school.

Girls have been at Wellesley House for 30 years this summer, a fact which is to be marked by a celebration at the Orchard Girls' House on 30th June to which all Old Girls have been invited. The Orchard is in an idyllic setting, surrounded by a beautiful garden and an orchard that, in the spring, becomes a field covered in daffodils. It has a croquet lawn, a vegetable garden, and tennis courts. There is a two-minute walk to the School across the playing fields.

Boys and girls thrive at Wellesley, learning the benefits of teamwork through sport, drama and music - the chapel choir is particularly strong.

Boys up to the age of 10 live in their own House attached to the main school building where they also are under the guidance of Houseparents. Boys from the ages of 11-13 live in the main school with access to their own common rooms, under the caring watch of the Senior House tutor and the Headmaster and his wife.

Wellesley offers small classes, superb facilities and a dedicated teaching staff. Children are encouraged to enjoy sport, music, art and drama at the same time developing their academic strengths. A strong sense of family values pervades and the happiness of each child is paramount. Traditional links with top senior schools are maintained and in the last two years children have won a range of scholarships to Benenden, Eton, Harrow, King's Canterbury and Lancing.

Children thrive at Wellesley, learning the benefits of teamwork through sport, drama and music - the chapel choir is particularly strong. The school is actively looking at ways to enhance the children's education and in September footballers will be experiencing the Brazilian Soccer School coaching sessions. Such innovative thinking has led to national and international success: the U.11 girls rounders team are this year's National IAPS Champions and in Georgina Harland and William Fox-Pitt the school boasts Bronze and Silver medallists in the Athens Olympics.

A busy weekend programme is provided and a host of extra-curricular activities including sailing, riding and golf ensure the children are stimulated, motivated and happy. Wellesley House is a school which encourages children to enjoy their formative years at prep school and provides them with an all-round education which will equip them for life in the 21st century.
