School Profile

Thorngrove School was founded in 1988 by Mr. and Mrs. Broughton, the Principals. It is a co-educational day school for children aged 4 to 13 years. The purpose-built facilities are set in former farmland in the village of Highclere, 5 miles south of Newbury and 12 miles north of Andover.

The school started with just 14 children. Due to its success and unique atmosphere the school flourished and grew in size year on year. There are currently 220 pupils at Thorngrove.

Over the years facilities have been built and extended. In 1996 The Old Hall was extended to provide more space for Physical Education and lunches and staff accommodation was built adjacent to the Main Building.

In 2000 The Senior Block was built. This provided exceptional facilities including a large Music Room with numerous individual practice rooms; a fully resourced Science Laboratory; a light and airy Art Room as well as several teaching classrooms.

In 2007 an architect-designed Sports Hall was built. This magnificent building not only has a large multi-purpose hall, but also houses an IT suite, changing rooms and several teaching classrooms and offices.

The beautiful grounds have always been a key feature of the school. These have also been extended and now stretch over 25 acres. The children are lucky enough to have access to woodland areas and a small stream runs through the campus. The extensive playing fields are the envy of many a visiting team. The latest addition, partly funded by the children’s school council, is an Adventure Play Area which has been positioned beside the tennis courts and astro-turf pitch.

In the summer of 2009 Mr. and Mrs. Broughton stepped back from running the school and appointed Adam King as Headmaster. Mr. King lives on site with his wife Claire and three children.

In September 2010 a D&T Centre was opened with state of the art equipment and facilities.
