A small school of 330 girls, The Royal School is in the top 2% nationally for value added education. This means that on average, The Royal School consistently improves the predicted GCSE grades of students by one grade; it also means that girls achieve their best with us.
This is an achievement by both staff and students as the School's intake is truly mixed ability with A level results placing girls across a wide range of universities and courses, recently including Cambridge (Mathematics, English), Durham (Music), London (Medicine), Edinburgh (Philosophy), Bath (Drama) and the London College of Fashion.
We also pay little heed to league tables, encouraging girls to fulfil their potential even if it does not lead to further academic study... last year one girl was picked to drive racing cars, the youngest ever to attract serious sponsorship and Formula One interest; this year another girl has been chosen by the National Youth Theatre to study stage production and lighting after 7 years supporting our own drama productions with knowledge passed down by a previous leaver; another was selected to join the Royal Ballet. In a small Sixth Form, one girl not going to university can make a big percentage difference in league tables... but The Royal School believes in its mission: Girls' education with a breath of fresh air.
Lower down the School our affirmative approach to learning is visible from daycare through pre prep to the prep department. Parents and visitors to the School often comment on the happy atmosphere.
Girls at The Royal School benefit from all those things found in independent schools such as small classes, individual attention, a beautiful location and extra curricular opportunities. However, the affirmative teaching and wide range of ability within some classes ensures every girl understands and is empowered to act upon her personal strengths and challenge her weaknesses.
The staff also benefit from such an inclusive ethos. In the last academic year the School has been awarded Investors in People, demonstrating the value that the staff put on working at The Royal School; more recently the School underwent its ISI inspection and was rewarded with a glowing report which commented specifically on the very good range of educational opportunities and the excellent caring relationships between all members of the school community... mutual trust and respect exists at every level and everyone is valued.
