School Profile

The American School in London is a coeducational,college preparatory day school enrolling an international student body aged four to 18. Founded in 1951, ASL is the oldest American-curriculum school in the UK and remains the only non-profit
independent school in England with an American curriculum. At graduation, students receive the universally recognised American high school diploma; they also have the option to prepare for the Advanced Placement International Diploma, which
involves following a program of study through which students complete university-level work and sit specified AP exams. ASL graduates enter the most selective universities in the US, the UK and other countries.

The core program of English, math, science, modern languages and social studies or history is enriched with classes in fine arts, computer and physical education. Small classes foster close teacher-student relationships, and students are encouraged to take an active role in learning in order to develop the skills necessary for independent critical thinking and expression. Numerous extracurricular activities, including athletics, community service and an afterschool program, round out a student's experience.

ASL welcomes students of all nationalities, including non-English speakers below the age of ten, who meet the entry requirements. Entry is at any age and at any time throughout the school year depending on availability of places. Previous school records and teacher recommendations are required for entry.
