Founded in 1921, Summerhill is a democratic school. Pupils learn rights and responsibilities.

School laws, decisions, displinary matters etc. are all decided in the school meeting where staff and pupils have equal voting rights.

Lessons are non-compulsory, learning is self-motivated. Small classes or individual tuition achieves a great deal. Success is not defined by academic achievement.
