School Profile

St. Clare’s, Oxford is a day and residential college for students aged 15 and above. Having over 30 years of experience of teaching the International Diploma St. Clare's provides the expertise and level of excellence that sets it apart from schools only now just starting the IB. St. Clare’s embraces internationalism and academic excellence as core values. Our IB Diploma students proceed to universities and colleges, including Oxford, Cambridge and London, as well as Ivy League universities in the US, and prestigous universities worldwide.

Students from over 40 countries study at St. Clare’s with a significant core group of British students. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, but with a strong emphasis on hard work and developing personal responsibility; there is no uniform and students and staff address each other by first names. Each student is assigned a Personal Tutor who oversees welfare and progress.

The College is located in an attractive residential area, 1 kilometre from Oxford City centre and occupies 24 large Victorian houses to which purpose-built facilities have been added. These include an outstanding library (over 35,000 volumes, Careers and Higher Education Information Centre and IT suite), 4 science laboratories, art and music studios, dining rooms and student café. Students live in College houses close to the central campus under the care of residential staff.

Most students enrol for the full two years of the IB Diploma Programme. St. Clare’s has an especially wide range of subjects on offer - including over 20 Language A1 options. For students not ready to begin the IB directly, a one-year Preparatory IB course is offered.

The College also runs introductory and refresher courses for students during the summer holidays. St. Clare’s is authorised to operate IB workshops throughout the year for experienced teachers and teachers new to the IB.

There is an extensive programme of social, cultural, service and sporting activities and students are actively encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities that Oxford provides. Within the spirit of internationalism, there are also strong links to local and overseas community projects. Entry is based on academic results, interview and confidential school record. There is a scholarship and bursary programme, awarded competitively before entry.
