A full range of academic subjects is taught and public examination results are consistently impressive: 91% achieved A/B A Level grades in 2007 and 82% achieved A*/A at GCSE.
The curriculum is flexible and responsive to individual needs, allowing fast tracking in certain subjects, support of Gifted and Talented girls and those who may need additional help. The emphasis on the individual is also strongly reflected in the exceptional pastoral care. Each girl has an individual tutor to support and supervise her welfare and academic progress and, in the Sixth Form, a Director of Studies to help her as she prepares for university. All girls go onto higher education (16% to Oxbridge) and this transition is eased by the 'pre-university experience' offered at St Mary's. This opportunity for the girls to develop independence in their living and working will be further enhanced by the new Sixth Form Centre opening in 2008.
St Mary's has excellent facilities for teaching and extra-curricular activities, from the performing arts theatre and the music school, to the state-of-the-art fitness suite and 25m indoor pool. The School is represented at county level in several major sports, nationally in athletics and internationally in horse riding. St Mary's girls participate in a whirlwind of academic, social and personal activities and they thrive in this lively and happy atmosphere.
