St. Clare's is unique. It offers students from all over the world the opportunity to pursue a first-class education in Oxford, one of the most vibrant and interesting cities in the UK. St Clare's was founded in 1953 with a mission to promote international education and understanding and has been doing so ever since.
It is a co-educational day and boarding college located in the elegant residential area of North Oxford. Over 40 different nationalities are represented of which about 15 per cent are from Britain. The atmosphere at the college is informal and friendly, encouraging personal responsibility and international friendships. Our students live in comfortable college houses under the care of a resident warden and all meals are served in the college dining room.
In January 2012 the UK government released the league tables for all secondary schools in England. The results show that St. Clare's is the top-performing school in Oxfordshire for the second time in a row.
St. Clare's was also delighted to be ranked the 10th best independent school in the England and 22nd best if you include grammar schools. The league tables look at how secondary schools performed in the IB and in A Levels for the 2011 examinations and calculate the average points scored per student.
Our results are particularly noteworthy because St. Clare's is not a selective college and because many of our students speak English as a second language. We put down our success to a combination of factors - small class sizes, students who are serious about their work, the stimulating experience provided by the IB curriculum, excellent teachers and a supportive environment where young adults are able to flourish.
The College had been awarded the highest rating for the quality of its boarding after a recent Ofsted inspection, something that fewer than 10% of boarding schools achieve in the UK.
This highly regarded inspection confirms the exceptionally high quality of provision in the following areas; helping students to be healthy, protecting students from harm or neglect and helping them stay safe, helping students achieve well and enjoy what they do and helping students make a positive contribution.
The IB Diploma is a very well established and highly regarded international qualification and students are choosing to study for the IB rather than traditional British A' levels. St. Clare's has a worldwide reputation as experts in providing the IB Diploma. No other school or college in England has been teaching the IB longer than St. Clare's and there are only 13 other institutions in the world who have taught the IB longer than us.
Our results also reflect our exceptional teaching and student dedication. 96 students sat the IB Diploma this year and 95 passed, a total of 99%. This has to be put in the context of the world-wide average pass rate for all schools and colleges which is about 78% making the achievements of our students even more significant.
This year St. Clare's students achieved an average score of 35.89 which is the equivalent of 4 grades As at A Level. Three students achieved 45 points, the perfect score, achieved by only 0.2 % of all students who take the Diploma, world-wide, each year.
Our students regularly win places at Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and other leading UK universities as well as Harvard, Yale and Stanford in the USA. We also offer a Pre-IB course which provides excellent preparation for the full IB Diploma.
