Queenswood School is the new name for Wakefield Tutorial Preparatory School; we adopted this name in April 2009 when we moved to our new building a few hundred metres from our previous home in Morley.
The past 12 months has been a very successful period for us. In June 2008, we had our Ofsted inspection, this underlined what a flourishing school this is; earlier this year we were one of the first schools in the country to be honoured with a gold award in the national âSing Upâ programme and now we have our new premises. The new location offers a much improved learning environment for our children; also, our garden area allows us to implement fully the Early Years Foundation Stage and is a very popular additional play area for the other children.
As the Sing Up gold award would indicate one of the particular strengths of the school is in Performing Arts, this includes Drama, Spoken English as well as Music. The children take part in assemblies and school productions with the opportunity to perform to a wider external audience. All this helps to stimulate self-confidence and self-esteem, which is very important in todayâs world.
Our sport was also identified as being âstrongâ by Ofsted, for a number of years we have had a Sports Development policy. This has created opportunities for the children to participate in a wide range of sports and games, with an increasing number of sports fixtures against other independent schools in the area.
Although we have moved and have a new name, our values and ethos have not changed. Our mission statement is:
âTo offer our children a balanced education in a quiet, caring and secure environment in which they are able to reach their full potential both academically and as people.â
We take the development of the âwhole personâ very seriously; it is at the heart of the schoolâs values as we seek to develop each childâs individuality. We prepare our children to take their place in society and this is reflected in the pastoral care we offer, our children are taught to respect those around them, themselves and the fabric of their community.
