School Profile

Pangbourne College - Proud to be different
Pangbourne is a distinctive school. We look different and we feel different because many of our founding traditions continue to reinforce the values that lie at the core of our community. Academic rigour, respect, integrity, appearance, responsibility and service are essential features of the 'Pangbourne experience' from which our boys and girls not only derive their awareness of what is right but also their own definite sense of identity and worth. We are proud of our students for they are easily identified; they leave us more self-assured, articulate and personally aware of their potential for success and the importance of contribution. Skilled in communication and with their ambitions extended, Pangbournians are resolute, having shared excellence, encouragement and involvement in the very many opportunities offered by the College.

Academic
'We are here to study and learn' reads the first line of the Code of Conduct of Pangbourne College. Our expectations are high and our academic results impressive. Small classes and our commitment to our students ensure motivation remains high and our pupils enjoy a strong sense of personal fulfilment.

Small enough to really care
The College is a reassuringly small community of just 400 boarding and day boys and girls and yet the range of opportunities available for individual interests and talent to be discovered and developed are unusually extensive. Pangbourne enjoys considerable success in rowing (four times Henley winners), rugby and hockey, with the girls the current Berkshire Cup champions. There is an extremely strong tradition of music, art and drama and, as with sport, all pupils have the opportunity to participate and excel.

Leadership
Since our earliest days, leadership has been integral to the Pangbourne experience. Not everyone will go on to be a leader in the conventional sense, but all will certainly have vital or leading roles to play within teams and will face responsibility. Fostering the qualities and instilling the values one would expect to find in effective leaders and communicators remains one of the most distinctive features of our College. We provide a graduated programme of leadership training from Form 1 (Year 7) to the Upper Sixth which is challenging and instructive, theoretical and practical, and which develops life skills that will make a real difference to the future career prospects of our students.

Location
Set in 230 acres of Berkshire countryside to the west of Reading, the College offers a superb quality of life in a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Access is easy with major transport routes linking the College to Central London (51 miles), the West Country and the Midlands.
