School Profile

Family values lie at the heart of Old Buckenham Hall - they drive our culture and shape our philosophy. Christian principles guide our pupils in achieving the best they can within a supportive learning environment. Boys and girls develop and grow, secure in the caring atmosphere which pervades this rural paradise. Old Buckenham Hall is an independent boarding school for boys and girls aged between seven and thirteen. The Nursery and Pre-Prep departments take pupils from the age of two. The School offers a healthy and spacious rural environment in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. Standing in its own beautiful grounds within a seventy-five acre park, OBH offers a rare setting for the achievement of excellence.

For over one hundred and forty years, OBH has provided a unique preparatory education for leading independent schools nationwide and is justly proud of its record of excellence in both Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations. OBH is independent of any one senior school and feeds pupils across a broad range of senior schools. The choice of senior school is a careful one which is achieved through consultation and partnership with parents and always focused on the individual needs of each pupil.

The School accepts children with a broad range of abilities across the many varied activities which are offered. From academic studies and sport to music, art and drama, OBH provides encouragement for every child to achieve his or her full potential - to be the best they can possibly be. These high expectations are seldom disappointed; pupils leave their School feeling good about themselves - confident, well-mannered and well-equipped to face life beyond OBH.

The School is strongly committed to boarding with over 70% of the pupils electing to board. Within our safe, secure environment, we provide a comfortable home from home influenced by a very strong family ethos. Dedicated staff are committed to ensuring that each child is regarded as an individual. OBH prides itself on its accessibility and staff are always available to children and parents.

One of the themes which underpins our philosophy at OBH is that it should reflect as closely as possible the real world. The School's admission policy is consciously broad and we aim to cater for a wide range of pupils. Admission is by interview with the Headmaster - there is no formal entrance examination.

In the words of the Good Schools Guide 2007 "A virtually perfect country Prep going from strength to strength..", but don't take their word for it, come and see for yourself!
