Education means so much more at 'Mayville'

Mayville's pupils star in numerous ways. Whilst we achieve academic excellence as shown by our GCSE results, some pupils excel in other areas like sport and creative fields such as drama, music, art and design technology, and socially whilst, of course, some excel in all areas. The experience of school is enhanced by the number of clubs and after school activities available. We are open 8am to 6pm for 50 weeks per annum. Academic excellence is, of course, the basis of our success the average class size is 16 pupils (Nov 2007)and all pupils are treated as individuals, their learning styles assessed and their capabilities tested. Over the years Mayville pupils consistently achieve high standards in GCSE examinations. In 2007 our first intake of Senior Boys to complete the Senior School since we were founded in 1897, achieved 100% of at least five A* to C's, not to be out done the girls also achieved 100% A* to C's. Mayville offers an educational experience to pupils of a wide ability range and has specific programmes for 'Able and Gifted' pupils, whilst supporting pupils with Dyslexia in a Unit recognised by CReSTeD.

At Mayville girls and boys are taught in separate parallel classes to best meet their individual learning styles, although they do mix for some subjects including drama, music, history and geography and socially of course! The wide ranging curriculum is enhanced by a variety of clubs and off site day trips (included in the school fees). The school's philosophy recognises the importance of developing the self-belief of pupils as the basic ingredient to academic success. Mayville pupils are well known for their self-confidence.

There is an emphasis on sport and creative activities with boys and girls experiencing a great variety of sports, both individual and team based. After school clubs extend interest in these areas and holiday clubs are offered to further enhance skills. The sports week in the summer is always popular it featured sailing, soccer, rock-climbing, bowling, skating, swimming and paintballing! Mayville regularly enters a team in Rock Challenge with pupils devising the concept, scenery, and much of the choreography.

There are many additional features of the school and full details can be found on our website.

School transports is available from surrounding areas (approx 15m radius), and from ferry and train terminals locally.

If you would like a prospectus, to book a tour of the school with the Headteacher Mrs Owens or to find out about our taster days, please call 023 9273 4847 or visit our web site. Applications for the January 2008 and 2009 Entrance Assessment are being accepted for intake in September 2008 and September 2009.
