School Profile

We welcome you to visit Kingsley School. We are located in the South West of England on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and close to Dartmoor and Exmoor. Our beautiful site has lots of open space and lawns. We have an excellent sports hall, an impressive and well used theatre, a state of the art dance studio and newly refurbished science laboratories and art rooms. We make good use of the nearby beautiful beaches and countryside.

We have three boarding houses set in our lovely grounds all on the same campus as the school�s teaching area, within a couple of minutes� walk of all areas of the school. They have a comfortable, �home from home� atmosphere and are well decorated and maintained. Some senior students have individual rooms; younger pupils mostly share, which is better for good social integration and development. There is good access to the internet.

All meals are prepared in our own kitchens every day and dietary requirements, including those due to religious rules and medical conditions, are catered for. There is a wide range of food available which comes from local sources wherever possible.

Weekend activities include Sports fixtures, gymnastics training and competitions, rowing training and regattas and a variety of less formal sporting activities. We make the most of the beautiful area surrounding us, and the local tourist attractions. We operate a very successful and well supported Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and we train for and take part in the annual Ten Tors event on Dartmoor. There is a free shopping bus to the local town of Barnstaple every Saturday, and once a term a trip further away to the cities of Plymouth or Exeter.

Academically our main areas of specialisation are support for individual academic needs and skills, and care for the individual (including contact with parents). The School prides itself on its friendly, homely atmosphere, whilst maintaining excellent academic standards in which pupils are encouraged to achieve their full potential. We have excellent ESOL provision for those with weaker English. ESOL classes are usually a maximum of 6 pupils to one teacher. Five lessons of 30 minutes each per week are offered.

We offer a wide range of sporting and extra-curricular activities, taking advantage of our superb location with particular strengths in judo, rowing, gymnastics, drama and music.
