School Profile

"A charming country prep and pre prep in sumptuous 175 acre grounds where children can be children. It has got almost everything right - from academics to rollerblading - all in an amazingly happy, humane environment." Thus the Good Schools Guide sums up how it is at Highfield and Brookham. The schools are non-selective but enjoy outstanding academic success and have a well balanced mix of girls/boys, boarding/day offering parents a wonderful choice for the whole family.

The relationships between pupils and teachers are lovely, with pupils speaking of teachers as 'nice' not frightening. The facilities are enviable including some of the most beautiful prep school pitches in the country, together with a new indoor swimming pool, music school and art school in addition to the new IT, science and maths buildings. Alongside all the new technology and smart equipment, sits a traditional wood panelled dining room, where the school meet for meals served at tables where manners matter, even for the 4 year olds.

The school is proud of its 'sport for all' policy that sees virtually all of prep school pupils representing the school in a sports team at some level. The children learn to become team players and competitors but above all discover that sport is fun and not just about winning. The pre prep is very forward thinking on academics and educational policy teaching traditional subjects with a multi sensory, creative approach which involves being outside as much as possible to appreciate the fabulous setting.

'All in all a delight and one of the most innovative and successful boarding and day preps going' is the Good Schools Guide final verdict and it is right.
