School Profile
Established in 1633, Exeter School has provided children with an excellent start in life since before the Civil War. The school has been on its present 25-acre site in Victoria Park Road, Exeter, since 1880 with Exeter Junior School in its own dedicated area and buildings on the same site.
A broad, academically challenging education awaits pupils between the ages of eleven and eighteen. The school's curriculum offers a wide range of subjects and aims to respond periodically to changes in focus suggested by national trends and the expertise of the staff.
In Years 7-9 (Third to Lower Fifth Forms) we lay the foundations for GCSE progress and provide our pupils with a range of studies which inform their later choices. Pupils study Art, Careers, Design Technology, Drama, English, Geography, History, ICT, Latin, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Music, Physical Education, PSE, Religious Education and the Sciences. A number of clubs and societies offer further opportunities to pursue academic and other interests.
In Years 10 and 11 (Middle Fifth and Upper Fifth Forms), pupils begin to specialise. They follow a core of English, French, Mathematics, Physical Education, Religious Education and Science and select further subjects from the options available. It is expected that most pupils will follow 9 or 10 subjects to GCSE.
The school's academic and pastoral teams operate side by side to monitor and develop children's potential. Heads of House have an overview of each child's development and close communication with parents is encouraged. Annual parents' evenings provide a forum for discussing children's progress, and grades and reports are published regularly.
