The Curriculum: The form teacher teaches general subjects to their class up to the age of 8. Thereafter, specialist subject teachers continue the curriculum in preparation for the Common Entrance Examinations for senior English Public Schools, for girls at age 11 and boys at age 13. A wide range of subjects is encompassed in the curriculum, including English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, French, Latin, Art, Drama, Music and Physical Education.
ICT is introduced from the age of 3 and it is an integral part of the syllabus.
The various parts of the school are served by a school wide network, allowing
pupils and staff to access their work from any computer. There is a computer
suite in each of the three school buildings. In addition, the Upper School
classrooms are equipped with interactive white boards and data projectors. The
School also benefits from a new Art and Science block with separate Science
laboratory and a wonderfully equipped Art, Design and Technology Studio.
Games & the Arts: Sport and Physical Education include Swimming,
Fencing, Gymnastics, Football, Rugby, Cricket and Tennis and the School has
successful teams competing against other London schools. Music is a
flourishing department within the School. Appreciation of music, singing,
composition, music theory and recorder tuition are taught by specialists at all
ages. There is an active School Choir, an orchestra and a variety of
ensembles that rehearse throughout the week. Instruction in Music, Art and
Design Technology is included for all children from Nursery School upwards,
as part of the Curriculum.
Individual Music lessons on a wide variety of instruments are available
during the day and after school (for an additional fee) from Year 2 upwards.
Drama is integrated within the curriculum and each child takes part in at
least two public productions every year. Children have the opportunity to
participate in a Nursery or Infants Christmas play, or the Junior School Carol
Service. An Infant production is held during the Spring Term and a Year 2/3
Arts Week or production is held during the Spring Term. Parents are also
invited to attend Nursery Music workshops during Music lessons during the
Spring Term. The Junior production for children in Years 4-8 is held at a West
End Theatre during the Summer Term.
The Art and Design room provides an outstanding resource and is
equipped with a wide selection of facilities, including a kiln for ceramic work.
Projects undertaken in Design and Technology include work with resistant
materials, textiles, ceramics, electronics, mechanisms and computer control.
The Art syllabus includes painting, drawing, printing, sculpture and
sketchbook work.
Pastoral Care: The School maintains encourages in every child an
enthusiasm for learning, good manners, self-discipline and, in all things, a
determination to do their best and realise their full potential. Small classes,
coupled with a large number of highly qualified teaching staff are an integral
part of the School's success. The recent ISI inspection indicated that personal
development of pupils was a notable strength of the school.
Senior Exit Schools For The Last Academic Year: St Paul's Girls,
Godolphin and Latymer, City of London Girls, Downe House, Francis Holland,
Kings College Wimbledon, St Edward's Oxford, City of London Boys, Dulwich
College.
