School Profile
Culford is a co-educational boarding and day school for some 650 children, aged 3 to 18, and is situated close to the pretty market town of Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. The School is located just 40 minutes from Cambridge and Norwich and is 90 minutes from London. There are effectively three schools (Senior, Prep and Pre Prep) located on the beautiful 480 acre parkland site with a magnificent 18th century mansion, Culford Hall, at its heart.
Culford has clear values. We want pupils to achieve all that they can, whatever their talents, and we believe in educating the whole person to deliver a well-rounded, fulfilled individual with excellent academic results. To achieve that we believe that education must be challenging, enriching and fun.
We aim to challenge pupils in order to stretch their understanding of academic subjects and to develop their abilities in a wide range of activities, promoting leadership, self-responsibility and service to others as we do so.
The School offers a superb range of facilities including: ICT in every classroom and eight ICT suites for whole-class teaching; modern science facilities in the William Miller Science Centre; a dedicated centre for Art and Design; a Studio Theatre and a new Music School redevelopment. Sports facilities are equally excellent with a 25m indoor pool, sports hall with new indoor climbing wall, fitness suite and squash courts. A four-court indoor tennis centre opened in 2009 offering specialist LTA coaching to national standards.
Two of the boarding Houses have recently received a ?2 million refurbishment and offer modern facilities including internet access in every room. There is a comprehensive after school and weekend activities programme for both day pupils and boarders.
