School Profile

General information
Christ's Hospital is an independent school supported by a charitable Foundation with a remarkable history. Established in the City of London by King Edward VI in 1552, but now located on 1200 acres in West Sussex, Christ's Hospital is a place of unique history and still proudly retains many of its distinctive traditions, including the famous "Bluecoat" uniform. The School's mission, which is to provide first class educational opportunities to students from all backgrounds, contributes to its success as an outstanding educational institution and a genuine microcosm of modern society.

Examination Results and Achievements
At A Level, the overall pass rate was 100% with an A/B pass rate of 68% and an average UCAS points total of over 300 points per pupil.

At GCSE, 93% of all entries were at A*, A or B grade and 75% of entries at A* and A grade providing a solid academic foundation fort pupils to build their AS course.

The percentage of pupils that are offered places at Oxbridge each year is currently 12%. We also send students to Ivy League universities in the USA and all the top music conservatoires.

The IB Diploma will be offered alongside A Level from September 2011.

Specialist subjects
The curriculum is designed to encourage pupils to study subjects in each of the major areas of the National Curriculum. Further opportunities are offered particularly in Languages, the Creative Arts and the Humanities. Notably, Christ's Hospital's pupils enjoy excellent music facilities with a superb teaching faculty drawn from London and the South East.

Sports
Pupils at Christ's Hospital explore sporting interests in both a competitive and more recreational setting. Boys play competitive Rugby, Soccer, Hockey, Cricket, Basketball, Fives, Tennis, Squash, Swimming and Athletics. Fixtures for girls are organised in Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Tennis, Swimming, Squash, Athletics and Rounders.

In addition, an extensive afternoon programme of Games and activities includes Badminton, Volleyball, Judo, Aerobics, Weight training, Cross-country, Trampolining, Fives, Fencing and many other options.

Co-curricular
Over 60 Clubs and Activities are available some afternoons and at the weekends. A huge range of sporting and musical opportunities is augmented by other clubs including Art, Astronomy, Chess, Combined Cadet Force, Cookery, Community Action, Cycling, Design & Technology, Drama, Duke of Edinburgh, Gardening, Human Rights, Riding and Venture Scouts.

Fees/Bursaries/Scholarships
Christ's Hospital is a unique independent school supported by a charitable Foundation which enables children from all backgrounds to achieve their full potential. Currently, the majority of places are financially assisted to a greater or lesser extent by the charitable Foundation; Full boarding weekly and day places are available for entry at age 11, 13 and 16 subject to candidates meeting the required academic standard.

Through the generosity of donors, and investments over the centuries, Christ's Hospital remains one of the last and largest truly charitable schools which continues to fund considerably more places than any other independent school in the UK.

Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence and ability in music, art, drama and sport. The awards are offered at 11+ (may be deferred to 13+ entry), 13+ and Sixth Form with a maximum value of 20%. Scholarships are awarded as a result of the normal entrance testing carried out by the school. Scholarships may be linked to bursarial assistance.

Sibling Discounts
Sibling discounts are discretionary for those on bursaries, recognising the impact on family income of fees paid for the first child, and are fixed at 8% for the second child and 10% for the third child in the school if paying full fees.
